Job Overview
The Project Engineer (PE) is a key leadership-support role focused on providing technical, administrative, and logistical coordination for underground utility, infrastructure, and heavy civil construction projects.
This position will serve as a critical link between project design, field execution, and maintaining proper cost control/budget adherence.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Technical Analysis & Project Execution
- Review project documents to identify material needs, prepare submittal packages, and manage RFIs for technical clarity.
- Convert design plans and approved RFIs into actionable instructions or drawings for field crews and Superintendents.
- Track project expenses (labor, materials, equipment) via accurate cost coding and facilitate invoice review and routing.
- Assist in managing design changes and drafting potential change orders.
Logistics & Procurement
- Proactively manage and coordinate subcontractor logistics, including material delivery, equipment needs, and scheduling.
- Expedite material and equipment procurement requests to minimize operational downtime.
- Lead site visits and daily check-ins to assess progress, address site-specific issues, and ensure alignment with work schedule and quality standards.
- Ensure general site safety and monitor crew member/subcontractor adherence to company safety policies and OSHA standards.
Scheduling & Communication
- Utilize P6 (Primavera) to manage schedules and keep crews, subcontractors, and vendors updated on milestones and deliveries.
- Participate in meetings with owners, clients, and design engineers to provide updates on project status, progress, and upcoming needs.
- Generate daily/weekly project updates and maintain organized document management and plan annotations.
Qualifications/What We’re Looking For
- Experience & Knowledge: Must possess a strong understanding of underground utility or heavy civil construction operations. A degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering is preferred, though equivalent hands-on experience in project coordination or field leadership is equally valued.
- Safety Mindset: Proven understanding of site safety protocols and a commitment to maintaining OSHA compliance.
- Industry Tools: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel. Familiarity with P6 (Primavera), Bluebeam, and AutoCAD is preferred.
- Project Specifications: Ability to read and interpret complex project specifications, blueprints, and technical documents to translate them into field-ready instructions.
- Professionalism: Must be a self-motivated leader capable of managing multiple deadlines and maintaining effective communication between subcontractors, suppliers, and project personnel.
- Physical Requirements & Work Environment: Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, uneven terrains, occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., and safely navigate through active construction sites.
- Location & Travel: Based primarily within the Atlanta, GA area. This is a 100% on-site and in-office role (not remote or hybrid) with travel required as needed by specific project needs.
- Other: Must be authorized to work in the US, possess a valid driver’s license with a clean MVR, and pass a pre-employment drug screening/physical.
